Future City

(VR) game to show Tilburg in 100 years

Future City is a collaboration of multiple educations combining strengths to create a representation of Tilburg in the future. The main question of the project was: "What will the city center of Tilburg look like in 100 years?". The group existed of 2 students from "Urban Design", 2 students from "Academy of Creative Industries" (ACI) and 2 students from ICT & Game Design.

My Share

I worked on the implementation of a map of the Tilburg city centre. Another group member got the overal layout including a model of the church, palace and "kattenrug" and then modelled the other buildings around it. I also worked on the implementation of a Vive VR system, mainly the movement by teleportation and limitations like map boundaries and not being able to move your head through walls, but unfortunately due to the first covid lockdown, we had to work from home, remove the VR and replace it with WASD movement. Luckily I still have this picture of me in a VR workshop!

Code

Unfortunately the VR code was lost, but the remaining code I worked on has to do with the AI characters walking around. You can talk to them by pressing the left mouse button.

What I learned

I learned more of the basics of Unity, how to create interaction with objects and how to use VR. This was also the first time I worked with Mixamo to create a character including animations.
